About me
Carike Jordaan successfully completed a Master of Science degree at Stellenbosch University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, cum laude at the University of the Free State.
​
She completed her internship at the Free State Psychiatric Hospital (FSPC). There she provided out-patient and in-patient psychotherapy to adolescents and adults. Out-patient therapy and assessments were offered at the child unit of FSPC. She also gained experience in forensic psychology by working at the observation unit.
Following her internship, she completed her community service year at Botshabelo District Hospital. Out-patients and in-patients psychotherapy were offered.

She is also a Phase 1 Brain Spotting practitioner. It entails focus and precision, where one can find eye positions (Brainspots) where the trauma, anxiety, depression or behavioral problems are held in the brain.

Carike enjoys working with children from the age of 6 years to teens and adults.

Fees
Rates for Psychological services rendered are based on Medical Aid tariffs and are calculated according to the duration of each session.
Clients have three payment options:

Option 1: Cash payment per consultation @ cash rate.
Option 2: The practice will claim from your medical aid.
Option 3: EFT at the end of the month for all consultations completed in that month.

What is a Clinical Psychologist?
A clinical psychologist is a mental health professional who completed a master’s degree in clinical psychology, a year internship at a psychiatric hospital, a board examination, and thereafter a community service year. According to the Health Professional Council of South Africa, a clinical psychologist assess, diagnose, and intervene in clients dealing with life challenges, particularly those with developmental and forms of psychological distress and/or psychopathology. Treatment is focused on evidenced-based psychological interventions to people with psychological and psychiatric conditions.
Who consults a Clinical Psychologist?
Mental disorders are diagnosed in accordance with criteria listed in diagnostic manuals such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V). Mental conditions include:

A diagnosis is not done to “label” a client, but to enable accurate and thorough evidence-based treatment.
Other problems that can be addressed during psychotherapy include: Couples experiencing relationship difficulties, grief, abuse, adjusting to a medical condition or individuals experiencing life challenges that cause distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

Sometimes a person just seem trapped in a way of thinking and acting which prohibits the client from moving forward and leaves limited room for problem-solving and leaves him/her vulnerable to life stresses. During psychotherapy the above mentioned challenges or conditions which are interfering with the individual’s growth and general well-being are identified, explored and resolved.
How long will psychotherapy take?
The number of sessions is dependent on each client’s presenting problem and therapeutic process. For example it can range from a few sessions to long-term therapy. Please discuss this with your psychologist.
What to expect from the first session?
The first session(s) is mainly focused on gaining information about the client and his/her presenting problem(s). This session gives the client also time to explain what you would like to achieve from therapy. The duration of the first session can range from 50-90 minutes. At all times confidentiality is paramount.

What type of therapy is used?
Carike Jordaan strongly believes in a holistic (bio-psycho-social) approach. Thoroughly assessing the client and the presenting problem together with the present circumstances is integral to the client’s mental wellbeing. She believes each client is unique and the treatment plan is formulated accordingly. Clients are active participants in the therapeutic process and personal responsibility is encouraged.
